Advertising Age has just released its annual survey of the average cost of an advertisement on broadcast TV shows, and the results are fascinating brain candy for the TV fetishist. Fox dominates the ad dollars with five of the six most expensive shows on TV. The upcoming Simon Cowell-free season of American Idol ranks at No. 1 with an average of $467,617 for a 30-second spot. While slots 3-6 are taken up by Glee, Family Guy, The Simpsons, and House.

American Idol new judge Steven Tyler and host Ryan Seacrest were both in New Orleans Sunday to conduct final local auditions for season 10 of Fox's prime-time talent show.

'American Idol' judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and host Ryan Seacrest are expected at final New Orleans auditions which will be on Sunday and Monday.

Media were not allowed inside the auditions. Cameras from local Fox affiliate WVUE-TV showed Tyler and Seacrest arriving at the audition last Sunday. Also expected at the audition venue are new judge Jennifer Lopez and returning judge Randy Jackson.

In tonight's American Idol Top 3 performance, the contestants were allowed to pick their own songs to sing in the first round while in the second round, they performed the judges' choice.

Casey kicked off Round One with "Okay, It's Alright With Me" by Eric Hutchinson. Ellen DeGeneres said, "I wish you would have brought it. It needed to really blow us away." Simon Cowell was not too pleased with the result either, saying "I think that was a dud song choice I'm afraid, but you sounded good" and adding that it was like a salad.

Next was Crystal Bowersox who sang "Come to My Window" by Melissa Etheridge. Kara DioGuardi commented, "I did think you got a little lost in the arrangement." But Simon countered, "From the very first day to now in the semi-final, you haven't compromised yourself as an artist. You came out here and just decided to do what is you. It's a very honest performance."

Lee Dwyze picked "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Kara was excited, "You showed us everything you've got. Round One goes to Lee." Simon summarized it, "That song was absolutely on the money. I don't think you won round one, I think you just crushed the other two."

For the second round, Casey came back on the stage with Kara and Randy Jackson's choice, John Mayer's "Daughters". Kara and Randy picked it because they thought it should be the direction that Casey takes but Simon blamed them for not giving Casey a big chance. He said, "It was a bit of a lazy arrangement. I hold these two slightly responsible for not giving you a much bigger vocal moment. To be fair, you sounded very very good on it."

For Crystal, Ellen chose "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney. Randy said it fit her like a glove while Ellen called it beautiful. Simon told Crystal to thank Ellen for the song choice, adding "What you just proved is that you've got soul. That was terrific."

The last performance of the night was Simon's pick. Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." Simon thought they had not heard Lee's version of the song yet. Randy called it Lee's biggest moment, Ellen was stunned, Kara said Lee owned the night and Simon said, "I'm very, very proud of you. You proved that you are a fantastic singer and an great person."

Last Night's American Idol Results saw Katie Stevens, Paige Miles and Tim Urban in the bottom three. Just as Katie Stevens made her way over to Paige and Tim, Ryan sent her back to safety. Aaron Kelly would have a classmate, and his mom would have a tour companion, this summer. And Texas pre-school teacher Paige Miles and Texas college student Tim Urban found themselves sitting in the bottom two spots last night after the votes were counted on "American Idol."

Ryan revealed that the person not going on an awesome 50-city tour with their new family of best friends would be Paige Miles. Simon said the judges unanimously decided ahead of time that they won't be saving Paige, so she doesn't need to sing for a chance at them using it. That's got to hurt more than Paige's laryngitis.

Emmy Award-winning talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has joined American Idol as the new fourth judge sitting alongside Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Kara DioGuardi. As the new judge, Ellen will offer her own unique perspective to the contestants throughout the competition.

The ninth season of American Idol premieres January 2010 on FOX. Ellen DeGeneres will join the judges' pannel after the auditions, which will feature appearances by guest judges Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Kristin Chenoweth, Joe Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry, and Shania Twain.
Upon becoming the fourth judge on the number one show, Ellen said, "I'm thrilled to be the new judge on American Idol. I've watched since the beginning, and I've always been a huge fan. So getting this job is a dream come true, and think of all the money I'll save from not having to text my vote."
